Hubs and I met with a naturopathic doctor this evening. The small organic foods store where we shop hosts this doctor, an every day guy with a lot of smarts, who will meet with potential clients for a free one-hour consult. Since Hubs has a heredity history of heart disease he takes some major cholesterol and BP meds. I have a unique form of crazy for which I also take meds to control. When one day I said, “Are we going to be on these pills for the rest of our lives?” we knew we needed an expert to help us figure out a natural solution.

The Doc’s philosophy (and one I hold as well) is that the body knows what to do to heal itself. And if that sounds too loosey-goosey for ya, he breaks it down with drawings and shorthand to prove that there is science behind it. For a large part of our meeting with him, he explained some basic physiology to us (of which we already had a grasp) but also delineated some interesting facts about how the body processes what we put into it and how it heals itself. (For instance, eating processed white sugar can shut down your immune system for 7 HOURS!) I like to think we have a very healthy diet, but each of our problems seems solvable through enzymes and minerals. It’s all about getting a balance in the body chemistry.

This is my first post to this blog, and I have a feeling that the word “balance” will be used every day in my posts. (Great, now I’m contemplating a new name for the site…)

I’m excited to visit the doc again after the new year and get myself, uh, yes, balanced. We’re hoping to plant a little sprout soon and I don’t want to fill him with pesticides
